My Definition of a Photograph …

The dictionary describes as photograph as: a picture made using a camera, in which an image is focused on to light-sensitive material and then made visible and permanent by chemical treatment, or stored digitally.

This definition does not encapsulate the important role that a photograph plays in everyone’s life and should be extended with…

…it connects us in the present, it connects us to our past, it reminds us of people, feelings, places and stories that we experienced, it helps us to know who we are and where our roots are…

Photographs Are Here To Stay

We are emotional human beings and life brings out the best and the worst in us. Photographs have the magic of capturing those raw emotions in a certain time and place and then immediately turning that moment into a memory.

Just think of the emotions that a “stroll” through old pictures can stir up. The power evoking happiness and sadness all at the same time. The photograph that forces you to stop and reflect on a moment that you already lived. No matter the occasion, that photograph captured the moment in all its glory.

Yes, we do not take pictures of everything and everyone, and it therefore creates an interpretation of the experience. We do however capture and keep photographs of people and things that resonate with our emotions at that moment. Therefore reminding us of what was important to us. Snippets of our story, our history and our journey preserved in an image.

A photograph has become and powerful translation of how you feel about something or someone, sometimes with no need for words. It also has the power of inspiration, changing a view or educating others.

What is the first thing that you will rescue from a burning house… for me and for many others it would be the photo albums or digital images if they are not saved somewhere in the cloud.

A photograph have the ability to grab your attention like nothing else. Over time your mind forgets things and the only way to record them is through photographs.

The best way to store memories and emotions… my most valuable possession!
